I hope you enjoy the increased traffic from the lack of a bus system.

And more traffic & accidents & unlicensed/uninsured drivers. The people that rely on the NICE buses are usually the ones that can't afford the LIRR & cabs. Crime will get worse as some of those same people will resort to stealing cars. Driving without insurance, registration or safety inspection. We can fight back & forth all day about this. But the truth will hurt either way.

Newsday just came out with another article about the upcoming cuts happening next week: https://www.newsday.com/long-island/...ers-1.11309443

It's interesting to note, assuming that statistic is correct as Newsday has better odds of getting ridership data out of NICE than we do, that while the changes affect 2,000 daily riders, the off and on riders of the bus system that would normally take those routes won't be there anymore. I've also been informed that a cab company has already agreed to take over the n14's route (the loop in Rockville Centre) when NICE stops serving it.

Taxi to replace Rockville Centre Loop bus - Rockville Centre - LIHerald.com - Nassau County's source for local news, breaking news, sports, entertainment & shopping

This seems to be exactly where we're headed. If we don't see more private cars on the road, we're going to see more cabs (most likely those orange and white vehicles with the giant Mangano advertisements on the roof) on the road. This Newsday article, and another one written last week, mention that one of the Democrats in the Nassau Legislature is trying to postpone the cuts of the n2/8 until the money can be found or given from the state, stating it will be inconvenient for the elderly. Never mind all the other routes and everything else wrong with the bus system, but this one route has to be more important than the other 10 being cut? Amazing. Personally, since this county doesn't even seem to want it's bus system, the state shouldn't be obligated to pay for it as I said earlier. Where was the Legislature almost 2 months ago when the cuts were announced? They were giving themselves pay raises. Too little, too late for a bus system that isn't even wanted. Nassau County now contributes less than 5% of the bus system's annual budget, and Mangano continues to insist on his Twitter feed and through his representatives that buses are cleaner, reliable, and save tax payers a lot of money. But at what cost? We know what cost, and we're seeing it happen right before our eyes. Before we know it, the bus system will be gone, and it will hurt.

I will never take the bus, but I don't think the service should be cut. The problem is you can't ask home owners and business to pay anymore taxes to fund the bus since the taxpayers are already being hit hard enough. You can't impose new fees and higher fees on the same people either. There is no good answer the bus system needs to be fixed and you need money to do that. The homeowners and businesses don't want to pay. No on can blame them for that. Most likely the system will stay as it is and suck, a crappy bus system is better than none.

If they could drive they wouldn't be taking a crappy bus. This isn't the city where mass transit is a viable full time option, it's a system of last resort for people who can't or won't drive.

Long Island was engineered for cars. Once upon a time dirty foreigners lived in closed urban ethnic enclaves and did un-American things like pray to Mary. Long Island was the kind of place that fixed these people into fine respectable Americans. It did it by pulling them out of the ethnic enclave and isolated them in a big house that had to be filled with lots of consumer junk. They had to drive a car to get to that suburban Long Island house. They became a good Americans and forgot their dumb papist tendencies and grew to love their cars. Isolated they became good Americans. The question here is why did you go so far, just to ride the bus. Long Islanders are not supposed to ride the bus or pray to Mary. Whatever you do don't let us catch you praying to Mary or any of those other dopey papist saints on your dirty bus.

not really it would mean more consistent head ways east of great neck and no more 30 40 minute delays on the N20. Plus 20 /40 minute headways will become consistent 30 minute ones instead.

to be fair many of the frequent routes are timed with each other the ones with problems are either being cut completely or restructured. You can't advocate for a system you don't use if nassau residents don't want to see cuts they need to USE THEIR BUS SYSTEM as in use buses like N40/41 35 to get to the LIRR instead of driving. Use N70/71/72 if going to places on hempstead turnpike. Use N43 a crosstown for getting to the mall. If you do NOT USE IT YOU LOSE IT. Many of these buses are timed with many trains. Merrick will lose all service why cause you people DID NOT USE the buses that ran.

dude **** some people use the bus to get to LIRR stations. no buses will not improve the mall's character as those same people who drive are sometimes on the bus as well. Plus the buses at the mall unlike the ones getting cut get used often.
