There is a house that I am interested in, which is in Wantagh and just North of the Southern State. I mapped the street and I see that Bethpage is north of this section. Is Wantagh in the area of concern for the toxic plume? When I looked at the map it seems to be going towards North Seaford and North Massapequa. I don't want to go and fall in love with a house and then be disappointed that it's in an area that is being effected by the toxic plume. Thanks for any info you can give. This house is right by Red Maple.

The plume from Grumman is already in North Wantagh, making its way into N. Bellmore, N. Seaford, Farmingdale, Massapequa, and will eventually be in the Great South Bay. They can't contain it. Google articles about it. Look at newer maps, because N. Wantagh has already been hit, especially north of the SS Pkwy.
What's odd to me is that the plume is not affecting home sales or values at all. Bethpage homes still sell like hot cakes.
There are cancer clusters. Although the Navy is lying and saying there aren't. Local officials will say otherwise! And it's not being remediated fast enough. You need to make your own decision, though. There are clean ups across LI, but this is one of the worst plumes. Because you're dealing with the Navy, and who really trusts what the government tells you is safe?
Last year they drilled test wells by my friend's street in Seaford, just west of 107 and about 4 blocks or so south of the SSP. Whether or not the plume reaches North Wantagh depends on water movement.
Yes, we nixed a house in North Wantagh precisely because of the plume and the direction it was heading. I am very neurotic about water quality and the house was about 2-3 blocks south of Hunt Rd which on the map below (source: Massapequa Water District) shows will be on the plume's direct path.
How are we Long Islanders allowing Grumman and the Navy to get away with this??
Time breeds complacency. Add to the fact that realtors and/or homeowners are not required to disclose these issues. If they were required to disclose, then home values would fall. Watch everyone fight the Navy then!

Actually I believe homeowners are obligated to disclose any material defects that could not be seen upon inspection. And that would be something people would possibly not buy the house due to knowing.
