I came home to find a small puddle near the bay window in my kitchen. It appears that with all the snow over the weekend and the warm temperatures yesterday, a large amount of very heavy slush had collected atop the window, causing the roof to buckle and ultimately leaked… Luckily there was a 2nd floor window directly above that I was able to hang out of and shovel off the remainder to prevent it from leaking further.

It’s actually 3 separate double-hung windows (not a newer style 1-piece unit) with a little framed roof on top. And it's about 10 or 12 feet across at it’s widest spot inside.

Just wanted to see if anyone had a general idea of what replacing this small section of roof might set me back… I tried to Google it, but most of the results were for full window replacements – not just the roof.

Thanks in advance!

This would be a great opportunity to test out that Flex Seal stuff. Since you can reach right to the top, and if that mini roof is black, just spray. You can pick up a can from Lowes.

I used the Flex shot on a crack on my basement wall, keeps the bugs out.

The kind of siding you have will determine cost.

Cedar shakes. With asphalt roof shingles. I'd probably be looking to replace the wood beneath the shingles as well.

I had a similar issue that unfortunately I realized a few weeks after moving into my house with my bay window leaking. I called roofing people, but no one was really interested in such a small job. Ultimately, I found someone that was willing to redo the bay window roof and my garage roof (which was in need of a new roof anyways) for about $1,500. Mind you, most of that cost was for the garage, so while this doesn't necessarily help you, you may want to consider trying to package it as part of a bigger job, if you can't find takers for just the window.

Actually that is pretty helpful to know. I may be better off with a good general handy man than a roofer.

Thanks!

Why do you make such a comment. If you think the bathroom pricing we have discussed is high that's fine. I understand that you aren't in the industry and don't understand pricing. No need to be rude about it though...
