Great idea ! Tear down the Nassau Coliseum, take the empty land next to it also and your all set. Don't forget to notify the service sector unions of the new jobs that are coming...
One of the new rides will be: "It's a Small Effin' World Made Smaller by Union Wages"
No. What I'm saying is an overwhelming amount of people work in NYC. All five boroughs. Much more than 20% of LI's workforce.
Overwhelming amount of LI'ers work in NYC? I don't think the LIRR ridership numbers vs. LI population comes close to supporting that, even if considering non-riders and non-workers in population. How do you know that is true?

It might not be true but, it sounds good. 80% of the families I know are supported by 1 or more NYC jobs. LIRR is probably only half or less of the daily commuters that trek past the Queens border everyday to earn a higher salary. I might be totally wrong as I have no proof but, l also haven't been proven wrong.

That is because this board is dominated by the northwestern Nassau County, "keeping up with the Jonses" type people, who tend to associate with similar people.

No. I mean in real life. Everyone I know in real life that has a stay at home wife works in NYC. The only time I heard of someone with a SaHW, without children, the husband made a boatload of money and could live anywhere they wanted. Except here and your plight.

The further east you go, the fewer people working in NYC (defined as the 5 boroughs). People on LI need many of the services seen in NYC. While I don't dispute that there is a reasonable number of people commuting somewhere west of the Nassau/Queens line, I have to remind you that there are plenty of people doing well out east for home working or SAHW is a choice, not a necessity.
Nassau
22% are under 18
16% are over 65
===========
38% can't work (logically, presumably)
so 62% of 1,358,627 may work
giving us 842,348 in nassau alone may be working.
Suffolk has similar percentages but higher population of 1,502,000
giving us 931,240 in suffolk may be working.
Total LI worker potentially 1,773,588 people.
LIRR: "With an average weekday ridership of 337,800 passengers in 2014"
That's not even 20% of LI on LIRR (and some may be traveling beyond NYC).
No way is it going to be 50%.
