Going to put up a roof in the back over patio this spring. Currently in TOB. Spoke to a few of the contractors and it sounds like it is not a big deal for me to put up a roof without a CO.
The way I hear it, I will just have to pay triple the permit fee, have an architect perform the drawing and deal with the CO when it comes time to sell the house. I do not have the type of neighbors to call the town on not having a CO, so I do not think that is an issue either.
Other than that, any thoughts on putting up a roof without a CO? It will be in the back yard. Thanks
It's a roof that extend the existing structure of the house. However this would be off of the garage roof in the back, not off the main roof which is much higher. It's a cape house.
My Dad did something like that (small back deck) and got a visit from the town and will have to bring it to code. - the neighbors can't see his backyard well so I think the town saw it on google satellite images. But he's not in TOB and it took them about 10 years to realize it.
Many people put them up, use them for decades and knock them down before selling the house.
Since it will not raise you taxes much, if at all, I would get a permit. Since its exterior work, the inspector does not have to enter your home. This way you know its built correctly and to building code.
