For myself I'll look at the higher priced options.
For my son who is 14 and whose feet are still growing the price is a real issue. He attends a school with a dress code requiring leather or leather like dress shoes that can be shined. His Bass loafers just split a seam, they were $119 full price but we got them at 50% off. He wore them for 9 months and they look like they've been through the mill. Apart from the split seam, the heels are very worn down and the leather around the side of the heels is peeling off. It's not like he's a really wild kid either.

I second Allen Edmonds for you, it's a moderately-priced shoe (yes, moderate). If you pay $60-80 you're in low cost territory and it will likely wear like a cheap shoe. You can repair Edmonds shoes while cheap ones get tossed.
My favorite used to be Church's but they haven't been the same in recent years. They are way out of your price range though.
For your son, invest in 2 pairs of shoes if they are leather. Leather shoes do better when you wear them every other day and use shoe trees. This assumes his foot growth has slowed to a place where he will get a full year+ between size changes.
There is an Allan Edmonds outlet at Tanger in Riverhead. The Bass outlets, in my experience, do not sell the same shoes as the stores.
That's where I bought most of my pairs 5 or so years ago. All are still wearing well as I rotate and use shoe trees. Very good service, too - ask when they're planning to have their next sale.
