Default Hempstead Lake State Park?

Considering purchase of a house where we could walk to this park (over a bridge, from RVC). What is the park (and it's 'occupants') like? ie, is it a family park, or a teenage hoodlum hangout?

Any inights are appreciated... thanks.

Default For those who may not be familiar with Lakeview

Hempstead Lake State Park is in Lakeview.

For those who may not be familiar with Lakeview:

Previously referred to as Skodic, Woodfield, Norwood and Hempstead Gardens, Lakeview is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the center section of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Lakeview in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Malverne-Oaks and the Hamlet of West Hempstead; on the east by the Village of Rockville Centre; on the south by the Village of Rockville Centre and the Village of Lynbrook; and, on the west by the Village of Malverne.

Lakeview is one of those villages and hamlets on long Island where none of the places in the community have the name of the hamlet as part of their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Lakeview have a "West Hempstead, NY 11552" and "Rockville Centre, NY 11570" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Years ago it had a bit of an unsavory rep. I would contact the local police precinct and ask them what it's like now. Explain what you're doing. If you catch the desk officer on a quiet day, you might get a wealth of info.

Bee is right. Go to Dunkin Donuts, and bring a dozen to the local precinct. You'll get the gossip like it's coming from the mouth of a washwoman.

My dad's a retired city cop. He retired down south, but still has to have his DD. My father is such a cliche!

My hubby was a Sgt. in the city, just retired. He's going through some major withdrawal from DD.

I think the NYPD should set up a 12 step program. When they file their paperwork at 1PP, they should be given a confidential list of DDA meetings.

I can picture it now:

"My name is Ret. PO Joe. I've been 3 days without a jelly donut"
-- polite, muffled applause
Joe smiles sheepishly, his right hand tremors as it reaches to wipe the powdered sugar that once would have coated his upper lip. Self consciously he draws his hand back as he sits down.
His fellow members wince painfully at the gesture, recalling their first day at DDA.

OMG, too funny!

You forgot to mention that the DDA is held monthly at the Holiday Inn Express conference room.

Nuts! You let the cat outta the bag. I'm not a DDA attendee, but I stayed at the HIE last night....

And now for an apology to the OP.

I am sorry I hijacked your thread.

However I was serious about stopping by the local precinct and asking the desk officer about the area in and around the park.
