The day some thought might never arrive — even deep into the second half when Stony Brook trailed Vermont by 15 points in the America East championship game Saturday at Island FCU Arena — finally arrived. Three-time conference player of the year Jameel Warney had a career-high 43 points, including 25 in the second half, to carry the Seawolves to an 80-74 triumph and their first-ever NCAA appearance.
Warney and Carson Puriefoy III, who had 23 points, were a potent 1-2 second-half punch that the Catamounts (21-13) simply could not withstand. Vermont took its last lead at 68-64, and Warney and Puriefoy took it from there, leading a 16-6 finishing kick. Warney had 10 in that span and Puriefoy five. They were the only double-figures scorers for the Seawolves (26-6). Naturally, Warney was named tournament most outstanding player as the packed house chanted “MVP!, MVP!“

I don't think that they even had a team in any sport when I went to grad school there ( bringing my little boy with me as there were no daycare centers then ) back in 1976 .

People may not recall what you said to them, but they will always remember how you made them feel .
I went to 3 games this year and have done so for numerous years. I'm so excited for this team. Their top player is Jameel Warney. He night even get drafted by an NBA team this year. Carson Puriefoy is another great player with a good 3 point shot. Will they beat Kentucky? Probably not but it is still great to see them finally make "The Dance" after a few years of heartbreaking near misses.

Things certainly have changed (and for the better in so many ways) over the last 40 years at Stony Brook University. Academics and athletics. If you look closely at the picture posted by the OP you can see the beautiful new arena, the team mascot, and the red-clad and enthusiastic student section of the sold out gym. School spirit at a great school!
I called for tickets -no luck - and was told they could have sold out the gym three times over.

On a standard weeknight during the regular season the Student Section barely gets 20 or so students and that section is normally empty. Only during the AEC tourney do they come out. And yes, the new arena is fantastic.

My undergraduate college is the same way during the week. But they get up for the big games. This was certainly one.

Isn't the game being played in Iowa?!
