hi,
i went to lifetime fitness garden city location today, and tried out the facility for 1 day pass.
price is 339/month for 2 adult + 2 kids.
149 is the admin fee and whatever the enrollment free of 300 is waived.
so at the end,
149 (its basically 99 + 49 for 2 adults) admin fee, and thereafter 339/mth.
i really like the place, and have tried to haggle down the admin fee, and monthly, but no luck. A friend of mine joined recently and also tried haggling but without success.
would like to know if that is how it is, and if other member have joined recently and how much you are paying.
Thanks!

They won't haggle. I have friends that belong here in NC. It attracts a hardcore following who will happily pay the price. Does that location have a pool? People here love the pool.

That's just nuts. Golds gyms out here are only $30-40 a month.

Overpriced gym membership is probably good motivation to use the actual gym. Cheap gym membership makes it easy to be lazy and skip work outs. Home gym usually becomes things to throw your clothes on when you are too lazy to put it in the closet.

Ditto. $ 339/month is insane. I pay a little under that for my ANNUAL membership at LA Fitness. For $ 339/month, I would expect a personal trainer at my beck and call for every workout, and someone to bring me water and wipe the sweat of my brow when using their machines!!

I'd just join the NYSC for $10 or invest in my own home gym.

It's more of a club than just a gym. Don't forget you get the pool in the summer! (and the indoor pool in winter)! And 3 hours in the child center every day. I think it's totally worth we love going my kids love the child area and the classes they do. Also a lot of classes (yoga etc) for adults are included.

quite the opposite. I go to a bare bone gym in Manhattan and use it quite often.

We have a family membership, prices are what they are. I think it's WELL worth it for the quality of the experience- pools (2 indoor, 1 outdoor), classes, service. The Kids Academy is something that we truly use the heck out of, 3 hours of childcare per day are included. If you have kids age 4 and up, the childcare hours include include language classes, arts and crafts, karate, zumba, sports skills, tumbling, pregymnastics...or the kids are free to play unstructured on the jungle gym or use ipads/puzzles. There's also an array of social events- daddy/daughter dances, poolside yoga and I will add that the outdoor pool is lined with loungers and is expected to have a liquor license.
It's definitely NOT for everyone but for us it's been fantastic and I have no issue paying the monthly rate...think of it as a country club for those who can't quite afford country clubs. As an example, on weekends we arrive about 9am and leave at 12/12.30 depending on whether we have lunch at the Life Cafe. Ask for a trial and check it out before you commit.
