I just want to tear down the walls and ceiling, since they all have holes and get a terrible draft during the winter. The garage is a 1 car attached. About 350 sq ft. Is there a rule on what kind of wall and insulation to be used? I wanted to remove all the old sheetrock walls and put plywood. Replace the ceiling with sheetrock. Is it possible to use plywood or does it have to be sheetrock for fire code? Reason i want to go the ply wood approach is to create custom shelving all around and hang my tools.

For insulation, assuming it is 2x4 walls just use some r-13 batt insulation. You can get at homedepot.

You need Type X gypsum drywall, 5/8" in thickness. Mark out the studs and then put the plywood on top of the drywall to do your shelving. Do not just use plywood instead of drywall. You can pick this up at home depot.

Also, if you are doing all of this work.. You may want to install a fire rated self closing door while you have all of the tools out. You can get this at windowrama.

Good luck!

Luckily the door is fireproof already. There isnt an entrance to inside the house. Should i use peg board or plywood on top? I eventually want to create shelving and hand my tools.

No reason to go plywood. Use sheetrock for the walls (already mentioned by another poster). Plywood is overkill. I have no idea about fire code on this, but suspect that either would be acceptable.

Simply secure shelf system to studs. If you want more flexibility in where you screw the shelf system in, screw some 1x4 boards into the studs on top of the sheetrock.

If you are looking to go pegboard, that can be easily mounted over sheetrock. You would want it slightly off the wall surface, so you would install firing strips (screwed into studs) anyway.
