A friend of mine used to live out in Manorville (about 7 years ago) and they had a choice of high schools to send their kids to since their "local" school district only went up through middle school. The high schools they could choose from for each of their individual kids (each kid was given a new choice) were Westhampton, Center Moriches, and Southhampton (I think). I know there were three. And of course, because of the layout of towns out east on LI, and even with the population increasing out there, their school districts are in flux, which explains the high school choice.
The original poster doesn't say where they are living.
Chances are you are stuck with your school district. The only ways I can think of to change the district is 1) move, and 2) see if you can make arrangements with your desired district to send your kids there for what will probably be a whopping fee. And be prepared to drive them or to set up your own private transportation.
If you opt for number two, check out some private schools as well.
While I agree with Nbres, I also agree with GC guy..we saw houses in Hicksville with Syosset schools for sale..cheaper, and right on the border..that's all I can add to this conversation, unfortunately, other than the fact that school is important from the beginning to the end..if you are happy now, be involved...these are the foundation years, which are VERY important..without them, your child would not be reading/writing, and learning basic skills necessary for life...good luck!

Yup I agree. I was young, stupid and never bought a house before. I just automatically assumed that because I'm buying a house in New Hyde Park, that I'd get NHP Schools. Instead I find out I've got Elmont Schools. Go figure.
some thing your can consider . get a stat on the school district as it relates to safety. you might be able to argue your point with the state departemnt to remove your son from your current district - and have the current district pay for a school that provide a safe learning setting
All these problems can be put to rest if all the school districts were just consolidated.
Don't know if this is 100% true. In NYC, it's all on district, but where you live determines which school you go to. As a result, there are many schools that are much better than other schools. Basically the same thing.
Why draw up a map? I think, maybe the RE Agent was pulling your chain.
That's for sure.... I've seen ads by RE Agents who will say a house is in "North Babylon" or "West Babylon" when the house is actually located in Wyandanch. I've also seen ads where houses are clearly in Wyandanch and the RE Agent will say "West Babylon SD" or "North Babylon SD" when these houses are in the Wyandanch district.
I guess the RE Agents are counting on the potential buyers not being familiar with the area or not being familiar with how LI school districts work.

You might find an easier time transferring to NHP High School for a specialized program because you are within the Sewanaka (spelling?) Central High School District. Stewart Ave school isn't too bad though. Sure beats Gotham Ave school!
