Hi everyone! We have always used Wyandanch but now looking at the areas that would use the Huntington station/line. My husband and my daughter as well as myself have never had a problem. Any feedback on the Huntington station would be appreciated. Thanks
Late at night, try to avoid the south side parking lot; it's less safe than the north side where the train station building is located.
There is day parking in the train station lot in front of the train station and on the street. If you're not a commuter, day parking is for you. Otherwise you have to purchase a sticker from the TOH in order to park in the garage.
Another thing to note is that there is a 24-hour taxi stand at Huntington Station. It's come in handy for us in the past.
Are you talking about daily commuting? If so think about using Cold Spring Harbor station. My dad commuted from Huntington for years but at some point switched to CSH (about equidistant from our house). But Andrea also gave you good advice for Huntington.

CSH is safe, but unless things have improved in the last 10 years parking is a nightmare after 7:30am or so.

That.
I’ve been commuting almost 15 years now from Huntington and never had any issues until recently - had some damage to my car in the south garage and suspect it was kids hanging out drinking in there – seems to be common lately…
I know another person (not personally, but heard) that had all 4 rims stolen and the car was left on blocks a few weeks after…
North side at least has cameras, though I wouldn’t bet on if they work or not.
Cold Spring has limited parking unless you are super-early.
*Edit - also forgot to add - I think non-resident parking at Huntington might be specific lots, so you may not even be able to use the garage (think the sign says 'resident only'?), but you might want to check with the town on that.

Cold Spring Harbor station IMHO is the place to use for commuting if you live nearby. It feels much safer there than Huntington Station. The train times at CSH are 5 minutes either earlier or later than Huntington trains regarding arrival and departure times. You ought to have no issues parking during the time frames you mentioned. All you'll need is that sticker for your car from the Town of Huntington - Raia's office issues them at the Town Hall. The police do check that parking lot quite frequently for violators and issue tickets on a regular basis.
