Really? You come looking for help and give nothing solid to work with? Like where do you work? How will you get there? How much time do you want to spend commuting? Is there anything you like to do when you're not working? Oh, yeah, what about a budget? Do you have unlimited funds? Do you plan to rent or buy? House or condo? Kids? Schools? Pets?

Give some information for people to make suggestions that might actually help instead of getting those from people who will tell you what they like, or don't which probably have no correlation to your wants and needs.

Jme, there are many considerations.

First, where are you both working? Are you working in the City and plan to take the railroad? Then look for a place near one of the LIRR stations. But will you be driving instead? Then stick closer to the Queens border because the further you move out the worse your commute will be.

Second, will you be having kids? Then the school district becomes more important. Many Long Island school districts are better then in the City but we have some bad ones too.

Regarding noise and quiet - for some reason I notice noise out here much more then when I lived in Queens. Especially along the local major roads at night. So my advice would try to stay a few blocks away from major roads if you can. Also, make sure you visit a area during rush hour and also during the weekend. You want to see how much traffic the area gets all during the week - not just on a quiet Sunday.

The nicest towns on LI aren't affordable unless by affordable you mean above average in price point.

Go live in Old Westbury or Upper Brookville, they are the least ghetto, Houses start at about 1.3mm w/ taxes 27k-35k.

Yeah you're going to need to at least provide a budget range if you want any meaningful answers.
