I am moving back to NY to work in Midtown. I used to live in Jersey City and have been living out in the suburbs of Chicago for the last couple of years. I am looking for some advice on neighborhoods in Long Island which I know nothing about. Ideally I'd like less than a 45 min commute and would like to live in a neighborhood with a walkable downtown but hoping for something that feels more suburban than Jersey City. It's just me so somewhere that feels safe is also important.
Depends on where he/she works in Manhattan. Could be a lucky person who works at Penn Plaza.
Buy yea, generally, 45 minutes DOOR TO DOOR limits you basically to North Flushing/Auburndale/Bayside and the co-ops in Great Neck (express train only).

as I said, very unlikely...it is possible. I walk to the LIRR and work in midtown...I can make it door to door about 50-55 min.
Getting anywhere on Long Island in under 45 minutes is nearing impossible. It takes me 45 minutes to get to my fridge sometimes.
