Default School District Maps

Does anyone know where to find maps of school district cutoffs for towns on Long Island? I'm looking to explore the Melville, NY area and I know parts of Melville got to Dix Hills schools but I don't know which areas. Is there anywhere to find out that information?

Get yourself a hagstrom map of Suffolk. It has school districts mapped out as blue lines on each map.

Thanks so much. I'll try that. Was hoping for something online but if I can't find it, I'll just buy the map.

For those who may not be familiar with Melville:

First called Sunsquams by the Indians, and in the 17th century was named Samuel Ketcham's Valley, after one of the early settlers, and, still later, the area became known as Sweet Hollow, Melville is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest part of the Town of Huntington, in the west part of Suffolk County, along the Huntington/Babylon town lines and the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line (the Suffolk/Nassau county line).

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Melville in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of West Hills and the Hamlet of South Huntington; on the east by the Hamlet of Dix Hills; on the south by the Hamlet of Wheatley Heights, the Hamlet of Wyandanch and the Hamlet of East Farmingdale in the Town of Babylon (the Huntington/Babylon town line); and, on the west by the Hamlet of Old Bethpage and the Hamlet of Plainview in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County (the Huntington/Oyster Bay town line and the Suffolk/Nassau county line).

The Hamlet of Melville has a different border than does the "Melville, NY 11747" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Melville and a place can have other than a "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Melville): places that have a "Melville, NY 11747" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Melville are in the Hamlet of West Hills, the Hamlet of South Huntington, and the Hamlet of Wheatley Heights and the Hamlet of Wyandanch in the Town of Babylon; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Melville with a "Wyandanch, NY 11798" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Do you know where I can get a School district map (like the one you show) for Nassau county (Franklin Square)?

The Census Bureau's online address search function indicates in which community (city, village or CDP) a house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.), AND also indicates in which school district an address is located.

Then if you highlight the school district and if you click on "Map It" (it's on the right hand side), you'll get a map of the school district you highlighted.
