Your property value us based largely on your school dirtiest. You may not have kids in the system but you will get the value of the district when you sell your home.

I HOPE you're not a teacher, given the way you spell.

Overpaying teachers and grand benefits and pensions doesn't automatically mean "good schools".

I grew up in West Islip. Many teachers were good, many were incompetent fools that could barely tie their own shoelaces. I'm surprised some of them could find the school each morning.

Way too much.
Their salaries railroaded me out of my home.
Total crooks scamming the taxpayers.

Too much nepotism. I doubt they are hiring the best of the best. If they were paying top dollar for the cream of the crop that would be one thing. Too many Dowling grads thinking they are worth $60 an hour, not including fat pension benefits.

Consequentially, that means the average LI teacher makes $60/hour plus benefits for a relatively easy, low stress, low demand job.

Teaching time: A new study finds that American teachers don't actually work much longer hours than their international peers.
For the sake of argument, is that your point? This has been discussed to the enth degree already.

In all the other threads, the teachers always come on and claim that they work so many X other of hours outside the classroom. This new study debunks that idea. At the same time, I happened to drop in and notice that people were paying 13-15k in property taxes. That is not normal.

The burned-out 5th grade teacher who takes every sick day and is counting the days to retirement is grossly overpaid.

The incredible high school science teacher who loves his job and is adored by his students, is grossly underpaid.

If these two teachers have the same number of years in the system, they are paid EXACTLY THE SAME.

Which is why unions suck, and tenure needs to be eliminated.
