Adding on a $105 fee to a parking ticket?

Why can't he just increase real estate taxes to $40 a residence and call it a day.

Quote:

Some of the new and increased fees proposed in Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano’s 2017 budget:
  • New $105 “Public Safety Fee” on traffic and parking tickets, estimated to raise $64.4 million to hire police officers and civilian staff.
  • Increase in mortgage recording fee from $300 to $350, estimated to raise $6 million.
  • Increase in penalty on delinquent tax payment fee, from $90 to $180, estimated to raise $2.5 million.
  • New $175 county administrative fee charged for the booting and towing of vehicles with unpaid parking tickets, estimated to raise $2 million. That would be in addition to a $166 fee that the vehicle owner currently pays to the tow company.
  • Increase in security alarm permit application fees and fines for false alarm violations — from $100 to $150 for residential permits, $200 to $250 for commercial permits, and $359 to $528 for alarm fines — estimated to raise $1.6 million.

Other than bosses and specialized investigators (homicide, intelligence, arson, etc) I'd like you to show me how many cops are making $200k per year.

We shouldn't be raising fees to pay for police salaries, it should be done through the general fund. More predictable, evenly balanced by all residents, these one shot add that impact a small segment border on the absurd particularly when a fee can be 4 times the ticket.

The county just did a buy out of police officers a few years ago and claimed there would be a $12M savings, it was completely wiped out by overtime costs yet they didn't see that coming.

I mean how much more can be sucked out? The guy is reaching for anything he can think about adding a tax or surcharge.

How about filing bankruptcy? That is what people do when their debt is so much greater than their income. Not make up phony taxes and surcharges. It cant keep going like this.

Have any of Mangano's ideas been any good? What a failure in office.
