For those who may not be familiar with Centerport

... Centerport on the north ... between Northport and East Northport on the east and and Huntington on the west.

For those who may not be familiar with Centerport:
Centerport is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the north-central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Centerport in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by Huntington Bay; on the east by Northport Harbor, the Village of Northport and the Hamlet of East Northport; on the south by the Hamlet of Greenlawn; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Huntington.
The Hamlet of Centerport has a different border than does the "Centerport, NY 11721" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have other than a "Centerport, NY 11721" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Centerport): places in the Hamlet of Centerport have a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Greenlawn is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Huntington, in the northwest part of Suffolk County
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Greenlawn in the Town of Huntington is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Centerport; on the east by the Hamlet of East Northport and the Hamlet of Elwood; on the south by the Hamlet of Elwood, the Hamlet of Dix Hills, the Hamlet of South Huntington and the Hamlet of Huntington Station; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Huntington Station and the Hamlet of Huntington.
The Hamlet of Greenlawn has a different border than does the "Greenlawn, NY 11740" Zip Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Greenlawn and a place can have other than a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Greenlawn): places that have a "Greenlawn, NY 11740" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Greenlawn are in the Hamlet of Huntington and the Hamlet of Elwood; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Greenlawn with a "Huntington, NY 11743" mailing address.

The beach won't be like most beaches. It is on the Sound side, so it is rockier and doesn't seem to role as much as the beaches I was used to near New Smyrna in Florida. I'm told that the southern beaches seem more like Atlantic beaches. It is also a small beach, but it never seemed so small that it seemed crowded by any measure (I'm writing about CrabMeadow beach).
Lots of things for kids to do who want to be smart.

The commute from Northport to Wall Street including all trip segments was about 1:45 (and there are a few direct trains that don't require a connection). While it may seem like a lot of time I still miss having the quiet time to read, catch up on work or sleep. The sum total of my life's commuting experience is that I'd rather take that commute over sitting in the car for an hour.
Taxes all over Long Island are high and in some odd ways Northport is more of a bargain because of what you get in exchange.
Also, while the beaches convenient to Northport aren't anything like in the Caribbean you'll find the proximity to be a huge plus. My wife would often grab the kids after school and take them to the beach for a few hours. Plus my kids didn't care about stone versus sand, that was an issue for the grown-ups. NYNewbie, check out Hobart Beach in Eatons Neck next time; it's the best beach situation for people with small children.

Traditionally this advice is true however in the current market there are many more house rental options available. I know of a few families who are renting out their houses because they couldn't sell before the market went into decline. You should contact a Realtor in the area to help you.

Northport is a really nice town with great schools. The only thing I have to say that is negative is that the town lost it's main st. movie theatre and it has been turned into a performing arts venue. As a movie theatre, was a great hangout for teens etc.... The second thing is that it lost the gap located on main st. also, which probably went under when the movie theatre closed and most of it's clientele with it.

Are you kidding me? Losing that GAP was the best thing that happened to Northport! Plus, have you seen any performances at the new Arts Center? Much better than a movie theater. There are plenty of places to see a movie. Just my opinion.

My husband was diagnosed with Melanoma. It is the worst of the skin cancers, also known as "The Beast" and I fail to see the humor in it. People who have lost loved ones to it can tell you wretched, horrible stories. My husband is lucky so far -- a 2 year survivor.
Would you kindly reconsider a different analogy?
Thanks

I'm a sensitive person, but I think this is absurd. Your assumption that someone in my family (me) hasn't dealt with this issue is presumptuous. You perceive someone at this end who is cold-hearted and glib.
Lets think of this the other way around; no one knows better than you do just how much I dislike Florida.

Ahhh-yup!!
The Cancer statement was stupid, but whats worse is you can't respect another persons feelings. Her husband had cancer dude...is it just too much for you respect her feelings.
If you don't have something decent to say to her reply maybe it might be a good idea just to say nothing at all rather than answer it the way you did...just my opinion is all.
A little sensitivity in the world can go a long way..think about it. You "really" had to make your point to her that way

Please try to be a little more sensitive. That was a very reasonable request by OhBeeHave & it is extremely disturbing that you still have chosen to defend that statement.
Remember, the topic is NORTHPORT!
