Looking for a place to park to take the train into the city from either Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, New Hyde Park or Merillon avenue. I just moved in and my apartment is very close to all of these trains. Does anyone have good recommendations on where to park for free or for a daily fee but without a permit required?

How far away is your apartment from these stations? If you are less than 2 miles I would suggest walking, unless you are lazy. You will get exercise, not have to deal with all the hassles of driving such as finding parking, paying for permits, cleaning off your car in the winter and wear and tear. Not to mention it will save you money.

Wear sneaker for the walk to and back from the station and have a pair of shoes at work. Once you get used to walking it will be as easy as pie. I do it every day and would never drive.

My information is a bit dated so you'll need to confirm.

Merillon Avenue has free parking. The lot fills up very early though.

Floral Park has some metered parking.

The others require permits, I think. You might be able to find street parking in the area, but check the signs. The hours can be restrictive. I think they also became more strict on that over the years because of residential complaints.

I should have thought to do this sooner...almost everything is google-able these days. I searched LIRR parking without a permit. Based on this link, Nassau Blvd and Stewart Manor have permit-only parking while Merillon and NHP have other parking available:
