Just got a bike rack and would like to take my wife and kids (12 & 9) biking. Don't want to travel to far, but anywhere within an hour from New Hyde Park.
Looking for nice scenic and flat terrain, thanks for your comments!
+1 for Caumsett. There's a nice paved loop, which is nice and easy, plus a lot of horseback riding trails to explore if you're feeling adventurous. And I think post-Memorial Day the parking fee is reduced on certain days.
Thanks everyone, how difficult are the trails at Caumsett Park, my wife and kids aren't very aggressive bikers.
The paved loop is a little hilly, but really easy - lots of kids ride it, even some with training wheels.
The horseback riding trails vary - some can have steep slopes leading down to the water which makes for a fun ride one way, but not so much heading back. Others are relatively flat. There's definitely a good amount to explore there.
^ yup it's a bit hilly if you do the loop, but halfway around there's a descending path down toward the beach area too... it makes for a good day and it's just enough for a family to do round-trip.
We also do the Massapequa Park Preserve trail. Bethpage has one that goes along Bethpage Parkway too. All paved and easy to do.
