I think I heard they're gonna start breaking ground soon but I could be wrong.
If you ask me, LI needs another mall like I need a dump truck dropped on my face. Syosset is the perfect place for one too, as if there weren't already enough trophy wives tying up traffic on Jericho Turnpike because their Grande Mocha Caramal Frappachino Latte spilled onto the BRAND NEW Palamino Leather Mercedes Benz SUV console....

Some friends of mine were talking about it...it would indeed be wonderful!! But I doubt it'll happen if the Mall at Oyster Bay ends up getting built.

Who needs Needless Markups? We have lots of other stores! From Syosset, it is a quick trip to Broadway Mall (2nd rate, I know), but also Walt Whitman and Roosevelt Field.
We need more stores why????????

Neiman Marcus Last Call is coming to Deer Park Tanger Arches outlet though, if that interests any of you.

I think the courts have finally said to the TOB that they need to explain why this cannot/should not be built, once and for all. In good faith, the judge asked Taubman to scalle back from 860K sq. ft. to 700K.
The difference with this mall is it will be all upscale and will attract mostly stores not on LI at all...Neiman Marcus, Barneys, and the like. There is a market for this on LI, with a fair amount of pretty wealthy people. Why not get the RE and sales taxes instead of people going into NYC and buying the same stuff.
It's a perfect spot for it, right off the highway, and it will be an actual tax generating entity. Like it or not LI is still one of the more under-retailed areas in the US, especially since it's also one of the most affluent ones. The mall will be a big success, like the Americana in Manhasset is. If this was another mall like all the other ones, then, no I don't think it would make sense. Since it's different, I don't see what the problem is. Westchester has "The Westchester", NJ has the Mall at Short Hills, so LI will have this.
Like it or now, wealthy people pay taxes...they pay income taxes, real estate taxes, and sales taxes...so offering things that will attract and retain the wealthy is ultimately good for LI, esp when we are competing with other regions and other sections of our own region that offer similar amenities.

I totally agree. I wish this mall would be built. Love the mall at Short Hills!

Listen, stop being so smug and arrogant. What if someone can't afford to shop here...it just shouldn't be an option is 100% of the population can't go. Stoopit LI'er...you're so rich, yet stoopy for living here.
As far as the mall, I hope they build it and I hope it's bigger than initial plans. Then, I hope that it and the Americana join forces to purchase all of the retail on LI and put a Gucci in every strip mall. That would be SWEET!
