I just received a ticket this week for not parking head in at Merrick. Took photos all around the car to show there was no visible signage. So frustrated -- obviously if the signs were clear, this wouldn't happen. What did you have to do to win your appeal? Completely skip the plea bargain step?

Must be several dozen spots.
So why the freebee?
Several dozen spots in Bethpage is a waste.

Years ago I took the LIRR from a station that had some parking under the tracks. The lot belonged to the town, but the spaces under the tracks were owned by the RR (MTA). There was one section in between pillars with three spots - right next to the ticket office. ONE of those spots was marked for RR employees only. Seemed fair enough.

Apparently, many commuters ignored the sign. When the shift was over, the ticket person would place a chain across all three spots. Due to the chain, "regulars" avoided parking in the two "legal" spots. I learned about this after the first time I was chained in. So I started carrying bolt cutters in my car. Ended up with an occasional good parking spot and plenty of spare chain to use around the house.

LIRR, like all monopolies, end up caring more about themselves than their customers. They probably own that lot and feel it is easier to reserve all the spots for one or two employees. Just like the "every train has to stop at Hillside facility" policy. What are you going to do about it? Move your business to a competitor?

If it's like the Huntington station, there are signs at the lot and garage entrances that state the rules - no head-in parking is one of them. Probably wouldn't make sense to have signs visible from every parking spot as everyone would just complain about how much they cost and causing their taxes to go up...
