Jerry and the Mermaid

There's also the Lobster Roll
Lobster Roll Restaurants
a bit pricier, still casual, better food. Farther north, more country-ish. Good for lunch or dinner. Order the lobster roll.

Tweed's (as in Boss Tweed) is darker, and the food is gamier. It's also on the same road as the aquarium -- Main Street in Riverhead. Buffalo is what you might order, or local duck. Fairly expensive.

Am I on the right track?

For activities, we also have the Long Island Science Center and the Railroad Museum, both in Riverhead. I haven't been to either and don't know if your sons are older than the target demographic or not. There are usually outdoor festivals in summer all around the area as well.
Lobster Roll in Amagansett (last time I was there) was a funky, roadside type stand -- loved it! Great if you're heading to or from Montauk Point. Lobster Roll North is more of a sit down restaurant; we head there on pumpkin picking runs. Both were very good.

Tweed's serves Bison, which they raise on North Quarter Farms in Calverton (right near Splish Splash). Our car club toured the farm and then went for lunch at Tweeds. I had issues eating an animal I had just met and opted for salad. Sounds silly, I know. Everyone else enjoyed their bison. My salad was very fresh LOL

And she said, "Who, that old guy?!?"
My friend owned a nightclub in Amagansett; a group of us went out there and spent the night. The next day we headed to the local beach. I was at the base of the walk from the parking area up to the beach shake when a bicycle bell rang. I wasn't paying attention, heard a male say, "Look out! Mad Biker!" and I turned just in time to jump out of Paul McCartney's way! This was 17 years ago. He looked VERY young, younger in person than he did on TV at that time.

For those who may not be familiar with Amagansett:

Amagansett is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of East Hampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Amagansett is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Springs; on the east by Gardiner's Bay and the Hamlet of Napeague; on the south by the Atlantic Ocean; and on the west by the Village of East Hampton and the Hamlet of East Hampton North.

The Hamlet of Amagansett has a different border than does the "Amagansett, NY 11930" ZIP postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "Amagansett, NY 11930" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Amagansett): places that have a "Amagansett, NY 11930" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Amagansett are in the Hamlet of Napeague.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Splish Splash is one of the top waterparks in America, I thought.

Looks like our trip to Splish Splash may fall victim to rising gas prices, if they go up any more.

That still leaves the original splish splash water parks called Robert Moses and Jones beaches.
