I don't think that's correct. My shop said every car must be checked. Rear windows can be dark as you want, which makes zero sense!
Shop owner said that if you receive a ticket for tinting, you MUST appear before a judge. They will also summons the shop owner to appear in court at the same time. Not sure how that works.
Certainly makes zero sense if it's all about officer safety and you can still have someone in the back seat obscured.
So are the cops being more vigilant on tint tickets now? When it's only been 1 month since the crackdown? Or will they give toward the end of the year so most people are evaluated? I'm not due for inspection again till December 31. I may have to drive often with the windows lowered this summer.
It doesnt apply to SUVs. If you have a sedan, pull em off, get the inspection, and go to the shop and get em reinstalled. $150/yr, not a terrible expense.
Put your tints on AFTER an inspection. But it's not worth it anymore unless it's a Sunday fun day car. If you have a Vette or a high end Sunday car then it's worth it. You won't be driving it in bad weather and you can ride with your windows down if you come to a road block. Welcome to fascism. Thanks Trump

This isnt Trump... This is the liberal sinkhole of NY and Cuomo. The same dips&%t that gave us the NY UNsafe Act....
This is our citizens asleep at the wheel.... This is OUR state. Don't boo. Vote..... If Cuomo came up with this B's law and money grab, he needs to go. I have a feeling that the "law and order" right wingers are the ones who came up with this nonsense.
Haven't seen this written anywhere... and it wouldn't be if it's about "officer safety".
Once again, I'm fine with officer safety and being able to see through, but 70% light transmission takes away any perks of having tint in the first place. How about someone come up with one-way tint where it shades from the sun but you can still easily see through?

"ALBANY, N.Y. -- State autoshops that conduct inspections must now measure window tint before approving vehicles for operation, according to a new state law signed Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo."

From News12:
"Updated December 29, 2016 5:55 PM
LINDENHURST - A new state law is set to take effect next week that will mandate vehicles to comply with window tinting laws in order to pass inspection.
The new law requires auto shops to test window tints before passing a vehicle for inspection. It only applies to passenger vehicles, such as sedans and hatchbacks. SUVs, vans and trucks are exempt.
Vehicles made in 1991 and older are also allowed to have darker tints."
Roll down the windows and pull the fuse. NYS inspection law does not require windows, or even doors for that matter.. But if you have windows, they cant be tinted.
