Default Mastic

I was just wondering what Mastic is like. I have recently heard things that are not so good about it. It is really that bad?

The best way to get your own opinion is to go out there and drive around, go to the stores, walk the streets etc. Some people like it, most people hate it. Everyone has their own way of living, what they want and what they can afford. It may be what your looking for? Get your own opinion, dont take everyone elses.

For those who may not be familiar with Mastic:

Mastic is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southeast section of the Town of Brookhaven, in the south-central part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Mastic in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Manorville; on the east by the Hamlet of Moriches; on the south by the Hamlet of Mastic Beach; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Shirley.

The Hamlet of Mastic has a different border than does the "Mastic, NY 11950" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Mastic, NY 11950" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Mastic and a place can have other than a "Mastic, NY 11950" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Mastic): places that have a "Mastic, NY 11950" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Mastic are in the Hamlet of Shirley, the Hamlet of Manorville and the Hamlet of Moriches; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Mastic with a "Mastic Beach, NY 11951" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Watch out!!! They may come after you next, demanding a public apology, demanding that you do community service, and demanding you stand on the highway with an "I'm Sorry" sign......

LIMA will become famous soon enoughLIMA will become famous soon enough
Go there and look, i doubt you'll see anything people paint, you'll find that long islanders add lots of fiction and stories and make things worse then they are..

Im from the city...and everytime someone says something about wyandanch, patchogue, bellport, mastic, grodon heights...i go and look for these mother goose stories they tell... Not a town yet i had a problem walking thru at night...not a town i can say one is different from another including what they say is better...other then some may have a touch more life here and there then others

But if you're afraid of the boogie man...well , ah you'll see...nothing like east ny or bronx...washington heights....maybe i spent to many years in the city.

you know what normally i wouldnt care what people think about places they have never been or lived but i think its sooo stupid how people believe everything they here...
i am 25 years old i have lived here ( mastic beach) for 8 years now.. i went to the high school here for a while too. in the 8 years ive lived here i have never been afraid of anything you people speak of.. houses being robbed 4 times in 6 years well im sorry but you surround yourself with the wrong people cause we have never been robbed and no one on my block has either.. before i lived here i lived in east islip the were more drugs available to me at 13 years old in the jh then there was here at 17 in the high school.. now dont get me wrong im not saying this area is better then east islip but its not what people think.. as for gun shots here thats everywhere in 9th grade some kids from central islip ran up into my east islip high school with guns and knives no one got hurt and no shots were fired but the guns were present.. if you want to here negative things about an area you will if you want to here good things about an area you will find that too.. people love to gossip and its even more fun when you can shock people, its bad enough some people give the town they live in a bad name but its worse when outsiders exaggerate the truth to sound cool.. those people really just look dumb when there proved to be liars... theres good parts and bad parts everywhere, but where i live is kindda in the middle.. n just so you know i have an alarm on my car with a system in it but its never locked or set, i also dont run to lock my doors on my house when i go to bed either.. some call it stupid but i say i will never live in fear of anything because life would be a waist if i did..

Since you don't live here you probably aren't going to be able to go and see Mastic for yourself so you will probably have to rely on other people's opinions. On that note...I would NEVER live in Mastic. I don't know what kind of living you like but if you have a family and want to live in a nice area, don't go to Mastic. There are I guess, nicer parts by the water but as far as I've heard, it is drug ridden and horrible. There are too many nice areas on the Island for you to choose Mastic. Sure, it's more affordable than most areas on the Island but it's definitely not a good choice.
