Worst School district in Long Island
Hi,
I am interested in buying a home in Long Island. Can you tell me the average and the poor school districts in the nassau county?
Much appreciated.

Hempstead and Roosevelt are consistently among the worst performing districts in Nassau County.

I would recommend researching the school report cards online and looking into greatschools.net for further feedback. This has been discussed in various threads all over this forum and you might be better served to identify an area you are interested in buying, then research those particular schools. While there are schools that do consistently underachieve some parents with children within those districts will claim that is has been good for their child, and that can be very true. Otherwise you are opening it up to a discussion of hundreds of schools with divergent and inconclusive opinions. Best of luck to you in your research.

Thank you for the feedback.
We were looking at Little Neck/Douglaston after hearing that the Queens SD 26 is the best in NYC. The place we are looking into in LI is New Hyde Park, the school district belongs to Elmont.
Elmont does not have a high school, but I do see the garden city HS is very strong. How can i tell if my kids will go from Elmont elementary to garden City HS?
So to revise my question, how does Queens's SD 26 compare to Elmont schools? And which public HS does the New Hyde Park kids go to?

You are goning to want to pass on Elmont Schools.............I think the go to Sewanaka HS but I'm not sure. In general, LI schools are better that city schools although sum NYC schools are highly rated.

Hi bi896, I live in the elmont school district in NHP. The elementary school is Stewart Manor elementary which is excellent. The HS is Sewanaka which is crap. The houses in this area are about $50k less than the rest of NHP because they are in SD# 16 and not #5

The LI school website does make it seem like it is comparable to other HS in Long island.
