For those who may not be familiar with Lindenhurst:
Lindenhurst is a village (incorporated in 1923) in the south part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lindenhurst in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst; on the east by the Hamlet of West Babylon; on the south by the Great South Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Copiague and the Hamlet of North Amityville.
The Village of Lindenhurst has a different border than does the "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and not be in the Village of Lindenhurst and a place can have other than a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address and be in the Village of Lindenhurst): places that have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lindenhurst are in the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lindenhurst with a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):

Good school district, but I find the neighborhoods unsightly. The neighborhoods are mostly on a grid with little character. However, there are many homes that are affordable for under $400,000. Another benefit is that the area is hooked up to the sewer system.

Would have to agree with the above posts. Its a so-so area. Not the best but far from the worst. I would feel safe walking anywhere in Lindy.

I believe some areas have a lot of flooding as well. I would chose other areas over Lindenhurst, JMO

They have tried to keep up the little village, though. It is Montauk Highway that needs lots of help . Very unslightly.

I grew up in Lindenhurst and would have no problem raising my family there today. I would if my husbands job would have permitted it.
I would stay away from N. Lindenhurst. The area between Sunrise and Montak is fine, but IMO, south of Montauk is the best area and by far the prettiest of them all. Most of the houses are smaller - as they were once mainly bungalos - They have all been added onto at one point or another. But they have a certain charm about them.

North Lindenhurst is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Babylon, in the southwest part of Suffolk County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst in the Town of Babylon is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of East Farmingdale and the Hamlet of West Babylon; on the east by the Hamlet of West Babylon; on the south by the Village of Lindenhurst; and, on the west by the Hamlet of North Amityville.
North Lindenhurst is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of North Lindenhurst have a "Lindenhurst, NY 11757" mailing address.

Quick question. When you hear and see listings posted as "in the heart of Lindenhurst Village". Where are they referring to? What streets/area is considered the "village"?
