Moving To Suffolk (Islip, Riverhead, Holbrook: house, school districts, taxes)

Can anyone tell me the best communities in mid to eastern suffolk where you will get the most for your money. I want a solid middles class community with a good reputation, schools, etc. I have read that the Mastic/Shirley isn't so great, any other suggestions? Price range 280k- 380k.

I am partial to the village of Patchogue. Schools are ok, village is up and coming and you can still get something nice for under $350

I'd try to find a house in Wading River that's in the Shoreham-Wading River school district. Careful to look at SD, though, because part of Wading River is in the Riverhead school district.

In that range you will have a choice of many homes in towns like
Rocky Point, Sound Beach, Yaphank, Ridge, Wading River(not as many choices), Port Jeff Station, Centereach, Selden, South Setauket, Holbrook, Holtsville, Ronkonkoma, Patchogue, Medford, East Islip.

There are plenty of good buys at the higher end of your budget, tell us more about what you want to spend on taxes or other requirements you have.

you heard right that mastic/shirley area isnt good... its very bad. not only is there a lot of pedophiles around there, the schools are REALLY bad. the whole William Floyd, Paca, and whatever other school districts are just horrible. the kids there are really just a bunch of Moderator cut: obscene language
and so are the ppl who work there! its also a real hicksville and poor area. i dont know any good places in LI, so cant help you there. Im moving OFF LI pretty soon(Thank Goodness). just thought id give you a warning about that area.

I second South Setauket! With housing prices coming down you may find something in the Setauket or Stonybrook regions as well.

I'm not sure where you are from, but many places in South Setauket have gas. Make sure to get your cess pools inspected before you buy!!!
