Why are Long Islanders not open to more destinations when deciding to leave for good? (Lloyd: house, good schools)

There is so much beautiful country out there. I left 8 years ago and am as happy as can be. However, if I went to Carolina or Florida I'd be miserable as well.
I think people want to go to somewhere that somewhat resembles LI, such as convenient shopping, good doctors\hospitals. I think they are shocked when they go somewhere where the taxes are lower and have more space only to give up all of the amenities they are used to here. My friend just retired and hates LI. He said he wants to move to PA. He looked and looked and realize that a lot of it is shady at best, The nicer areas have taxes nearly as high as LI. He was most concerned about having to drive 20 minutes to go out for milk or something that is a 2 minute walk now.

I think first accepting what you stated (convenient shopping good doctors\hospitals) does exist in many places outside of the NY Metro. Secondly much of these areas are in locations with significantly lower taxes and their not shady although some may be just like on LI. For those that want a 2 minute walk for milk they can house shop in the areas that are closer to the town/shopping just like you would do anywhere else...

I was there last week. They still have snow on the ground. April is when everything melts. They get slightly more snow than we do. However, it takes a very long time to melt. The temperature was in the 40's
Who really cares if I'm in my log cabin with my feet up & the fireplace going? LOL

Everyone has a wish list and you just try to check as many boxes as possible. For us, still wanted to be a day's drive to friends and family on LI, no interest in leaving the east coast, good schools/educated community, good healthcare, less snow....no one should move somewhere and be "shocked" by what they find there....that indicates a complete lack of research. It happens, especially when people think "everyone else" moved there and "they're happy". Certainly, if driving 20 minutes for a gallon of milk is a problem, don't live anywhere that you might need to do that...including Lloyd Neck on Long Island.
There sure are plenty of nice places to live in this country, no reason not to find the perfect place for you.
Each individual has their reason for choosing where they relocate.
Low taxes, conveniences, healthcare, climate, beaches, mountains, lifestyle (are they athletic, outdoorsy, artists, bookworms, etc.)
It definitely will be a place that doesn't have 5 months of freezing temps when its time.
