Great point!!! So true! It's just a ban for those stores on that day. I think it's a great idea!

The law is a sad attempt to legislate common sense and respect. WHO in their right minds allows their child to shoot Silly String at parade participants? If parents would do their job, this law would never have come to pass.

The antique cars would be better off at a motorsports facility...

I doubt people are shooting the trucks and cars driving by...looked as if it was shot off the truck and it got onto the truck, and the truck being parked and getting on it while kids were tossing confetti and spraying it all over...

Personally i don't think there should be parades....it just wastes money and no matter what it creates garbage.....

Well, it is difficult to wash off. But, I guess that is the voice of an old-timer. (toilet paperer that I once was )

We should ban matches.....if we ban them, no fires....then no need for fire trucks and we all can use silly string at parades!

Default Problem with that reasoning

Problem with banning matches is that you couldn't enforce it. Remember, that was your earlier concern. Moreover, matches actually serve many purposes. I light my pilots with matches. I start my grill with matches. Candles when the lights go out. I warm up ball-point pens with matches.

What, again, are the purposes of silly string? Oh yeah, there is none. Oh, and I'm not allowed to bring matches where ever I want either.

Hmmm. That complicates things.

Which is my point....who is going to measure the 1500 feet? Who is going to notify all potential retailers oF the parade schedule? Its not enforcable and kids damaging public property is still against the law without this ban.

Bad enough I can't bring silly string on an airplane!

I find it silly indeed, especially considering the mess in the station. I guess most of the folks who vote for Petrone and his cronies live in CSH or Dix Hills and dont have to deal with the problem.

A motorsports facility? They are to be driven and enjoyed; why limit their exposure?

As for the Huntington Parade -- we were out there this afternoon and the crowd was great -- nothing sprayed at us or anyone in my immediate view. Once we rolled past the rural cemetery, the police presence increased. The crowds near the bars were a little rowdy but great fun. The children had a ball doing the 'Honk the ahooga' signal and they were grinning from ear to ear as we ahooga-ed and tossed out candy!
