If you can, steer clear of Brentwood - not the best area to be in. If you can afford a better location, go for it.

we where thinking of looking to buy some real estate there for about 400k. (I did find some nice homes)

My question is.. Are there any Universities on Long Island area itself? What type of large Universities exist in Eastern NYC metropolitan area and Western Long Island area?
Four-year colleges.
The board pretty much hit up the major colleges.

FYI:
There is traffic, but less so than many places in the US b/c we have more mass transit.

There is crime, but the NYC suburbs are some of the safest places in America, especially on LI. NYC is the safest city with over 1 million people in America, too.

Stress...perhaps, but that's b/c there's a lot to do and a lot going on, but we are more high strung than most places...and I love it. Hate going to places where everyone is sooooo slowwwww.

Good luck with everything.

Traffic isn't that bad compared to California. Of course, that's like saying a bruise isn't that bad compared to a gunshot wound.

Once you know the shortcuts around here and where to avoid during rush hour (LIE around Happaugue, Oakdale merge...), you should be fine.
