Anyone send their kids? I went to the open house today and just looking for feedback. Thanks!

If you live in Town of Islip try to get a spot in the Byron Lake Day camp program, its awesome & really inexpensive to town residents. Its located in Byron Lake park which has one of the best pools in Islip town.

I heard that's a great program, but I live in Brookhaven where our programs aren't very good to be honest!

I sent my kids to Laurel Hill for a couple of years. They found it to be very regimented with the same schedule almost every day and they didn't like that.
I didn't like the prices - it's a very expensive day camp, and after you've paid a complete fortune they expect you to tip the counselors and assistant counselors (basically kids in training) a few hundred more at the end.
My kids were pretty happy at the Stony Brook School's day camp (the private school on 25A in Stony Brook), and an even better deal financially was the day camp run the SUNY at Stony Brook for kids. My son took part in that one for 2 years and it was a hit with him.

I'm going to echo your sentiment concerning the Stony Brook School summer day camp and the SUNY Stony Brook program.

Laurel Hill
I did not like Laurel Hill because they make the children stay outdoors all day long, even when the weather is especially humid. Because sometimes children need a break from the humidity or extreme sun, especially if they are asthmatic, like my kids are. IVY LEAGUE in Smithtown is absolutely fantastic! It has both shaded and sunny areas, the campus is tremendous, and it is the cleanest camp I have toured with the nicest staff! And there programs are designed to have the children alternate both indoor and outdoor activities, so you can be assured that your child has sufficient cool-down during those hot and humid summer days! I live in Port Jefferson and I still send my children there over Laurel Hill. The tuition is steep, granted. But if you have the ability to work there (I know most don't), they give 2 of your children free camp tuition. And the biggest thing to remember is that this camp is ACA accredited, which is HUGE!! It means that any camp with this rating (and there are not many) has adhered to the strictest safety policies: staff screening, camper/teacher ratios, food preparations and service, camp eqipment safety, swimming pool safety, etc. I STRONGLY suggest that you look into what ACA means. Most camps do not have this rating b/c they do not wish to subject themselves to high standards and possibly have to revamp their campground and/or employees.
