Cablevision or Direct TV on the North Shore (Sound Beach) (renting, movies)

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about switching to Direct TV. By comparison, I would save 30 bucks. I pay 90 now just for family cable and HBO, whereas Direct TV would be 60. Then in one year up to 80. The payperview movies are 1 dollar cheaper too.

My only concern is what some people say about weather interference. Do you live in my area within 2 miles from the sound and have Direct TV??? What are your thoughts........ and no FIOS is not available here (I think).

If there's a strong thunderstorm, your signal will go out until it passes. This could be anything from a few seconds to several hours. The HD picture and selection are fantastic and their DVR's are just as good as Tivo. I had Directv and loved it. I have Fios now and love it even more though. It is worth a call to Verizon to confirm you can't get it. Good Luck!

I have Directv and love it..........rarely do we lose a signal due to rain. Make sue you have a clear view of the southern sky...tall trees can present issues.

i switched to direct tv 4 years ago and have had no problems until recently with there customer service and what seems to me a poor attitude with customers.i've had some issues with my down stairs box,and i was treated rather rude in my opinon.i am thinking about going back to cable

Anything but Cablevision !!!
It also the most expensive in the country.
Cablevision IO is TERRIBLE the cable boxes are slow and WORSE TO USE THE CHANNEL GUIDE you have to scroll through 100s of international and Spanish channels to see whats on. Sometimes the guide scrolls 50 channels past what you want to see. Sometimes they crash
The CPU is to slow even in the newest box. It's equal to running flight Simulator on a 486 computer.
Also the cable is in there own digital format so if you put a HD TV set on the line you cant view basic HD content without renting there HD Box
You also Support the commie Dolan mob using there service

I use the Verizon TV the boxes are fast, illuminated remotes and the support 1080P.

With Dish or Direct systems it has to be really REALLY BAD weather to block a properly aimed antenna, usually summer squals they pass in 10-15 minutes. You ge this maybe 3X a year

I had DirecTV on the north shore of Long Island for five years and have now been a customer of theirs for six years total. I've never had a service interuption that lasted for more than fifteen minutes.

Dollar for dollar DirecTV is superior to cable particularly on Long Island.

They don't have FiOS there yet? I know I've been waiting and waiting for FiOS, but it's not in my area yet (something about the Town needing to approve it).

I would take the Direct TV over cable... when I move, I'm definitely getting Direct TV (unless I'm lucky enough to get back to NYC.... if so, I'm getting Time Warner)

+ same here. I only switched when DirecTV stopped supporting TIVO (which I love) Switch to cable for their triple play. The only reason I would stay away from DirectTV is that the TIVO Series3/HD is not compatable.

FIOS is in my area, but I do not know of anyone who has the service. Currently I am using the Evil Empire aka Dolan's Cable. Does anyone know what level of FIOS internet is the same speed or faster than Cable's broadband? I have no idea what all the speed numbers mean.
