North hempstead renovation (house, construction, floors)

How long does it take to get permits? Should I even bother getting them in north Hempstead?

Need a new roof, windows, siding, tree removal, opening up kitchen, expanding ceiling,doing bathrooms and floors?

yes and if you're lucky, 3 months. You can always try to push your luck without a permit depending on how well you know your neighbors and how competent your builders are (and also if you're not concerned with permits when you sell).

If you're going outside the original footprint of the house you need permits. If I were just doing interior renovations I would not bother, and I'd make sure my neighbors weren't annoyed by my construction.
