What would be the best way to hack the speed limiter on an e-bike ?
i know nothing about e-bikes . never even saw one . but i would think some might be programmable while others would need a controller swap out to higher ratings since you can't just increase voltage usually on dc motors and their controllers once you bump their rating . . but like i said i know nothing about them . i am not sure how far you can push the motors even if you do re-size the controller .
i would think that the primary limit would be the controller voltage rating , then the motor ability , then the cooling and heat removal aspect .

just so you know dc motors and controllers like e-bikes have nothing to with variable frequency drives . dc motors are not controlled by variable frequency . dc drives are a different world and they work by varying voltage and current . in my business we never get involved with dc drives . in fact in my 40 plus years of being in the field we have seen very few .
ac vector drives and off the shelf ac motors have pretty much replaced them over the years . the industrial applications we run in to here no longer need dc motor speed regulation to see tight control . the ac vector drives do it very well with nothing special in motors . .

Disagree. In all probability, the new panel will be a different size and have a different layout. The wires from the meter pan would need to be changed. Go ahead and start messing with an old meter pan and see if you can get old wires out, new wire in without damaging it...and remember, this will be a novice "electrician", and the line side will be hot.
I would never recommend any amateur work live on anything . We have had some terrible accidents over the years in our shop by experienced panel builders

How about replacing, or temporarily bypassing the controller and using a Rheostat instead of the PWM ?
If I wanted to be extra lazy I think I should be able to size fixed resistor to avoid motor damage and have a button for top speed like a temporary "turbo" option.
With the PWM it will work hard up a hill and dissipates the heat fine but flat ground the speed tops out way before the power rating.
I wouldn't offer a warranty on half a job. Once you open the pan, anything's possible...
And what if at the same time as you "open the pan" you hear on the radio that it is going to snow and you don't have any milk then what do you do ??!!!
