Default info port jeff station?

Me and my wife currently have our eyes on a house in PJS in the Clinton Elementary area.(just north of old town road and a block or two east of Jayne BLVD. Affordable? YES.... but i just cant get a real feeling on the immediate neighborhood. If anyone has any information or comments on this area it would be greatly appreciated. We are first time home buyers married for a year and want to stop renting and start a family. Our budget is tight and were looking in the $280K- $300k price range. Thanks in advance!!!

For those who may not be familiar with Port Jefferson Station:

Port Jefferson Station is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northwest part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the north-central part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Port Jefferson Station in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket, the Village of Port Jefferson and the Hamlet of Mount Sinai; on the east by the Hamlet of Mount Sinai and the Hamlet of Terryville; on the south by the Hamlet of Terryville and the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket.

Port Jefferson Station is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where many of the places with the community name in their mailing address are mot in the hamlet: places that have a "Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Port Jefferson Station are in the Village of Port Jefferson, the Hamlet of Mount Sinai, the Hamlet of Coram, the Hamlet of Terryville and the Hamlet of Setauket-East Setauket; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Port Jefferson Station with a "Setauket, NY 11733" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

We live in Port Jefferson Station (been here 4 years) and absolutely love it here! My two children attend Boyle Road Elementary and I have nothing but positive things to say about the school. Our neighborhood is beautiful with sidewalks and tons of kids. Everyone is very friendly. We have a mix of young families as well retired couples on our block. My boys play soccer in the Terryville Youth Soccer League and my husband is a coach. We are always spending time in downtown Port Jefferson with the kids at the park, walking on the docks seeing all the boats, getting a bite to eat and some ice cream on warm summer nights - it can't be beat. PJS is a working/middle class community with a great school system imo. We have lived in many other areas (Longwood, Rocky Point, and Shoreham-Wading River) and I would not move back to any of those districts! Comsewogue HS offers a lot of AP classes and extra curricular activities. The sports programs are outstanding and always get tons of community support (especially football and lacrosse). As a community and a school district we kind of fly under the radar, shadowed by Longwood/Middle Country on one side and the yuppy Miller Place and Mount Sinai on the other. For the most part the neighborhoods here are all very similar and modest. We DO NOT have an enormous immigrant population as some people on the forum would lead you to believe! We are somewhat diverse but minimally so. Longwood, Sachem and Middle Country win diversity hands down! We also do not have a large spoiled brat population which is refreshing b/c it's just too hard to keep up with the Jones these days.....lol. Hope I've helped you out.

I used to live behind Boyle road on Rodney St. and loved the area but the area I believe the individual is talking about is by the lake streets (Huron,Ontario,Superior). If this is the area be careful. The neighborhood isn't horrible but it has gone downhill a bit; drive by around 6-8 pm and see for yourself. Behind Boyle road is much better but the schools in general are good. Hope this helps.

I went to Norwood and then JFK Middle School. My impression was that the Clinton kids were the most white collar and studious, and the Boyle road kids the most blue collar. There were some rough kids from Boyle, LOL. At JFK there were fights during lunch most days, sometimes pretty violent with brass knuckles and the odd knife. It usually involved kids from Boyle. Norwood was somewhere in between Clinton and Boyle.

In retrospect, Comsewogue is definitely below average by Northern Long Island standards. I'm glad my parents moved out of that district.

Of course this was over a decade ago, maybe things have changed since.

2 sets of my friends live between Janet and Rush -- they are both looking to get out of there for different reasons. One's children went through the schools and she is looking to downsize; the other's are in the schools and she is not happy with what they offer as opposed to what children in neighboring districts are offered.

We live between Janet and Rush and couldn't be happier! Drive through our neighborhood anytime you want and see families out with their children walking, playing and buying ice cream from Mr. Creamy. My children have attended both Clinton and Boyle Elementary Schools and we couldn't be more satisfied. Our neighbors are wonderful and we especially enjoy the summer block parties and BBQs! Comsewogue is a wonderful school district that offers an abundance of AP courses and is home to some of the top sports teams in Suffolk County. We love all of the local restaurants and the easy access to both 25 and 347. Our neighborhood is truly a child's paradise - today I had nine kids here playing all afternoon :-)

Paddington - My boys have gone to both Clinton and Boyle between 05 and 08 and things must have changed quite a bit since you attended. Clinton is def more the jock school with a large football, baseball and lacrosse crew. Boyle is actually more of a laid back crew with some soccer, baseball and wrestling and lots of art/music kids. Clinton class sizes are much larger than Boyles right now (23-24 Clinton to 16-17 Boyle) but overall the schools and education is ultimately the same - both great!
