Don't buy any house in LI unless you inspect the blue print and C/O. Make sure every room or any finished listed on the blue print before you purchase. Don't just base on the Nassau county website . It's bull sh*t! Check with local, town or village see where the house you are looking for belong too.
Thank you, kb, I didn't know this. Do they fare better in a dry environment and do you have any advice on how to prep the space to make it livable? I'm considering a house with a basement in the SW. I'm also concerned about my dust allergies. As a kid I lived in a house with a basement and the dust made me cough.
My house has a crawlspace and I had tons of problems getting a plumber who would work down there. Some people don't fit and can't get in and out easily.
Best thing for basements are dehumidifiers, especially in the summer.
Basements are for utilities, hiding bodies, rituals, sacrifices, and portals to hell.
Not intended for living space.
Don’t forget the camel crickets, or as I had one year, a swarm of thousands of yellowjackets. I thought they were paper wasps and proceeded to fumigate by myself. I got lucky.
Why do people want to finish the basement? What do you do in it?
Many people make it into a home theater space if they don't have anything like it in the living room upstairs. Or a workout / play area. The one negative for us are the bugs down there, and it's a bit more segmented than we would like. A dehumidifier is a must and it can get a little noisy too.
