Lake Grove and Middle Country Schools
Hello, I'm considering moving to Lake Grove, any feedback on that area? Seems nice driving through it. Also, any comments on Middle Country Schools?

I think your best bet is to look on the Sachem side of Lake Grove.

My ex moved to LG after our divorce with my son. He is currently in the eighth grade at Samoset in the Sachem SD and I have had a pretty positive experience. He was diagnosed early with ADD & the special education department has been particularly helpful. The area is nice, not too busy, close to abundant shopping & close enough to the LIE for commuting.

For those who may not be familiar with Lake Grove:
Lake Grove is a village (incorporated in 1968) in the northwest part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County, along the Brookhaven/Smithtown town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Lake Grove in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Stony Brook; on the east by the Hamlet of Centereach and the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma; on the south by the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma, the Hamlet of Nesconset and the Hamlet of St. James, all in the Town of Smithtown (the Brookhaven/Smithtown town line).
The Village of Lake Grove has a different border than does the "Lake Grove" ZIP Code postal zone (there are places that have "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lake Grove and there are places in the Village of Lake Grove with other than a "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address): places that have a "Lake Grove, NY 11755" mailing address that are not in the Village of Lake Grove are in the Hamlet of Nesconset, the Hamlet of Lake Ronkonkoma and the Hamlet of Centereach; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Lake Grove that have have a "Nesconset, NY 11767" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): http://www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Lake Grove/ Middle Country schools
Dont worry about the Middle Country part of Lake Grove. Anyone who says to stay away from this part of Lake Grove probably needs to go to School Maters and or the MLSLI websites for a reality check/ update. Twenty five years ago I would have said stay on the Sachem side, but my research shows Sachem and Middle Country just about the same in test scores. In some cases, Middle Country even out scores the Sachem Schools. Just compare Sachem North HS to Newfield HS. There is a reason why Lake Grove homes in the Middle Country part of town are commanding the same or even higher prices then their Sachem counterparts, and I believe it is all about the changes taking place in the two districts. Middle Country is on the upswing, and the homes being built in this part of town are large and expensive to say the least. People moving to this area of town will not put up with lackluster schools. That being said, you really cant go wrong buying into either part of Lake Grove. It is a lovely little village.

Middle Country Schools
If you check the New York State Education Dept site, you can see that Middle Country schools are safer than the schools in surrounding districts. Middle Country has fewer "incidents" per 100 students than other schools of excellent reputation such as Sachem, and The Three Village Schools. Dont take my word for it...check it out for yourself.

I agree that Middle country has gotten better and definitely in my opinion is now on par with Sachem S.D. but Three Village isin another category. This is probably the best school district in the area by far. Not to knock Middle ctry, my friends have kids there and it has lots of good programs just be careful in your comparisons. You cant compare apples and oranges.

An incident is a matter refered to the police, or a suspendable offence.

The northern section of Lake Grove is in the Three Village school district which is superior to the other two school districts and it is reflected in the sales prices of the homes...
Middle Country is actually on par with Sachem as stated above...
From there it depends upon your likes/dislikes about different sections of the area...
