There are a lot of people who still swear by the Superstors, including my builder and his plumber. Mine had a total failure after 7 years. After doing a lot of research into them, it seems that they (and any other stainless tank) do not mix well with softened well water, as the salt reacts with the metals. Based on research and plumber's recommendation, we installed a Vaughn, we will see how long it lasts. The Buderus indirect in another residence also failed after 6+ years (although the unit (not labor) was replaced for free with 4 months to go on the warranty).
The key to long life of an idirect on long island, is actually changing the anode rods. They do work, and will more than double the life.
