I quite often drive out to see my in laws in Centerport. I try to keep up with traffic since I'm always worried about getting a speeding ticket. Traffic usually moves at 65-70 on a good day with a 55 speed limit. Quite often, there are guys up my @ss especially in the HOV lane. I also see a lot of people flying by on the left lane of the non-HOV lanes. My guess is they're going around 75-80. They dont seem to be concerned with getting pulled over so I'm curious based on experiences out there, at what speed over the limit do people get pulled over on the LIE/NSP? Rule of thumb that I've used in the past is keep it under 10 miles over the limit. On I-95 near Greenwich, my buddy got pulled over and the cop told him that if he keeps it under 15 over the limit, they dont even bother. Wonder if its the same on LI.

65 to 70 seems to be ok, especially if there is traffic moving at the same rate. If it's at an off time, I think they are a little more strict as it is easier to single someone out. My rule of thumb is I always want to see somebody driving faster then me so that they will be the one that gets nailed.

Yeah, depends on the traffic.....anything over 75 is a high risk.

I doubt they pull over motorist under 65, risk increases proportionally between 65-74.

I think the state troopers on the parkways are more stricter than the cops on the LIE. I try not to go more than 70

85.
Im on the road all week from eastern Suffolk to Western Nassau.
Hovering around 70 on the LIE or Sunrise 9 out of 10 cars are whipping past me.
I never see them pulled over. I see the cops. I know all the hiding spots.
Ive had to speed up to pass to get out of the way of some stupid jackass many times and actually hit 75-78 to move over and they just blast past me. Easy 85. Never see them get busted.
Doesn't matter what lane. Just full of jackasses.
All I want to do is hit cruise control and lay back and I just can't.
LIE is definitely the worst. Nothing but animals.
I avoid parkways. Just don't like them.

Flow of traffic is fine, even if it's 75mph. I got caught doing 77mph at midnight once when I was young. Not many people on the road at the time, so I didn't have cover. Basically don't go above 65mph when you're alone, and even that's pushing it.

I thought you wanted everyone to be droning along at 55 because it's the law? But you do 70?

If you’re comfortable at 65-70, that’s the speed you should be driving. Screw everyone else, just stay off the left lane except for passing.

Yes. I only do 70 when pushed. And it's only in bursts.

I treat Nassau & Suffolk differently. People drive a bit faster in Suffolk.
