Hi all,
I’m relocating to Nassau County from Connecticut for work. This is a field service position so there is no office I report to daily, it will be all over the area, occasionally into both Suffolk County and Queens. I have no kids so I am not concerned about school districts. I am a person who enjoys a vibrant downtown area with lots of shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. I’ve visited Long Island and found Garden City and Long Beach to fit in with my agenda. Are there any other towns that offer similar atmospheres? Thanks.
Rockville Center over Garden City (I used to live in GC) for a young single person. If you're in eastern Nassau, make your way to Huntington, just over the border in Suffolk.

Westbury
Long Beach
Port Washington
Valley Street (village)
Lynbrook
Hempstead downtown (rough area though)
Oyster Bay
Glen Cove
Garden City (downtown)
Freeport
Farmingdale (village) and quickly growing
I'd say - Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, Roslyn, Long Beach, Port Washington, Rockville Center maybe Freeport?
Many people from Nassau just go "into the city" because it's close enough to do that.
Suffolk County - Huntington Village, Port Jefferson, Smithtown, maybe Rocky Point. Of course the Hamptons in the Summer and the North Fork has become more lively.
Usually, areas near the LIRR stops are the most lively part of a town with shops, restaurants, parks and apartments; and most local governments are trying to further develop these areas to attract young people, singles and commuters.

Downtown Great Neck had fancy shops and restaurants when I worked near there in the 1980s. I would think it hasn't changed much.
