Ugh. This really threw a wrench in everything...
Where was the ticket given? Nassau? Suffolk? NYC? Small village?

Where it was issued will dictate what you will do.....

So go to court and prove the cop was wrong so that you can win

I'm 60+ yrs old and over the years collected a dozen or so tix and guess what..I was wrong everytime and everytime I admitted guilt, paid fine and continued on. Please...you're acting like the boy you say you're not. Try humility and admit you were wrong. C'mon...try it you'll like it.

While it is true that some cops will give bogus tickets, you have to decide if it is worth your time & money to prove yourself right, & if you have any realistic chance of winning. It sucks to pay a false ticket, but sometimes, that is life. Taking time out of our regular life to fight a hard cause, might not make sense.

If the ticket was issued in Nassau, you need to take a day off and go to the traffic court in Hempstead. I been there twice for parking tickets. Very likely you will be able to plea the ticket down to a jay walking ticket with the court clerk. No points. Just paid the fine.

Agree, go fight it. They will reduce it to a no seatbelt ticket. No points. Had this happen to me a few years ago (was Village Cops though, not Nassau)

convictions stay on for almost 4 years from date of conviction . they come off the january following 3 years after the date of conviction . that can run just shy of 4 years .
Right, which is why I said they were separate. I have had an insurance company issue their own points on me and they kept it on for 5 years. I wasn't talking about the dmv points.

And yes, you're right, date of conviction, I forgot to put it on there.
