Millions wasted and millions more in opportunity costs. LI is completely dysfunctional. Including the LIRR. The corporate world knows it and won't invest here, and in the few instances they are willing to, it's at gunpoint for massive tax abatements and IDA PILOTs. Everything falls on the backs of the homeowner and nothing substantial or exciting gets developed. It's a vicious cycle. What's worse is we used to subsidize $50k+/yr jobs with IDAs. Now it's $13/hr jobs and those aren't even being delivered as promised. It would be considered shortsighted in some places, but on LI it's intentional NIMBY fueled shooting ourselves in the feet.
Arenít the Islanders going back? Could they turn things around with that?

And yet the line for the open houses in Nassau are 20 people long, I don't get it LoL

Do ppl really not see what's going on, or are they just in denial about paying $1,000 a month in property tax

Swapping city income tax for a patch of lawn, property tax and a monthly LIRR ticket.

They are only going back for a short time while the new arena in Elmont is built.

What makes it better? Less poor kids?

If anybody moves to LI for their kids they should not be complaining about taxes.

Because you know you have to pay, and you know they're going to keep going up.

20 deep to pay half mill for a 1400sqft cape built over a toxic plume. As they say "only on Long Island!"

And on the schools, they are pretty good...except we pay $25k per student. Lots of places doing it better for half that or less. Uh oh, I'm attacking "the profession" again.

Long Island public schools are way better than NYC public schools. Itís no secret why NYC residents that arenít rich leave NYC for expensive suburbs when they have children.
