In general

I rarely get bit

Maybe twice a summer if that

And my neighborhood can get downright aggy some summers with the mosquitoes

I'm like 3 blocks from Jamaica Bay

They may give a damn, but give a damn more about their kids.

Despite how the companies try to advertise it (pictures of kids and pets on the lawn, stating that the substance is similar to a compound produced by the chrysanthemum flower), these synthetic sprays contain several known carcinogens and an endocrine system pathway disruptor. Nasty, nasty stuff. Spraying this stuff every 3 weeks, every summer, during your childrens' developing years would not be a great idea. It really is surprising it is allowed in residential neighborhoods where un-consenting neighbors' yards can be sprayed with the stuff as it drifts.

If you're talking about the garlic sprays, that's a different story, and I have heard good things.

Otherwise, take the usual steps to remove standing water in your yard. Also, I have had great luck with Avon Skin-so-Soft Bug Guard Expedition spray...for both ticks and mosquitoes. (IR3535 is the bug repellent...safe for kids and even pregnant women...used in Europe for that purpose...yet just as effective vs. mosquitoes as DEET, and even better vs. ticks.)

I used to slather myself with 100% DEET growing up. No problems.

I think its possibly your skin or blood type. I had an uncle like that. Skeeters never went after him and the ones that did died, but everyone else got bit. They go after me like pigs to slop.

I agree with you it's body chemistry. I used to get bitten like crazy....ever since I had kids they leave me alone - weird. My daughter gets eaten alive.

It works. Its so nice to sit outside and not get bitten. Worth every penny. I spent alot on doing my yard and it would be horrible not to enjoy it because of mosquitos.

According to this article, it's not just beer but alcohol in general. I don't think the first two reasons are significant but the thiamine (Vitamin B1) might be.

I used Mosquito Man, I believe they are from Elmont. I live in Garden City area and they were recommended. So far, I haven't seen one. If you see any, they come back for free.
