Just got a call that someone representing my HO insurance wants to schedule an appointment to take a survey of my home. We just bought the house in 2016 and have updated our survey. Not sure if this is normal? I have asked a few people and they never had this happen and have lived in their home for many years. What does this survey entail and could this increase my premiums?

I had this happen to me TWICE within the same year with Merrimack Insurance.

Apparently my home assessed higher than they were willing to cover, and planned on dropping me at renewal time.

When they ordered the inspection I was very skeptical as it was through a 3rd party and just sounded very shady....but I was assured was legit. For the second one I refused them coming into my home...and they just did an exterior inspection.

Bottom line is that it is very possible, especially on Long Island where companies are looking for any possible ways to not have to pay.

I've never been asked to let someone in.
They've always done drive-by inspections.

It's common when you first buy a home or purchase a new policy. I've done it several times. They make sure I have smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher and couple other little things. Basically just making sure that the house my policy paperwork describes is an accurate reflection of the house I actually own.

If you haven't recently switched policies, I'm not sure why they'd be doing it. You could always call and ask.
