Try Farmingdale.

Kinda similar to Bay Shore but without that calm coastal nautical feel. Lots of shopping amenities, diversity and close to Melville.

Babylon may make sense too. I've always thought of Babylon Village as what would happen if Bay Shore and Brightwaters had a baby and morphed into one. Babylon can be pricey but you can get a reasonably priced apartment in W. Babylon that's very close to the village. The commute to Garden City can be a bit tough from there.

Why not try the lindenhurst/West Babylon/Babylon area. Nice middle class area. Lindenhurst has Venetian shores during the summer.

And what does Lindenhurst have during the rest of the year?
