I know it's a widely discussed topic that has proven pretty vague, but does anyone have insight into what the assessment formula actually is?

Or simply what factors influence the assessment the most? (ie, livable square footage, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc)

If you were to build a new home, or improve a home, what would you do to minimize your assessment?

-build a tiny house
-build in another state

Seriously, Long Island salivates at new construction, unless you are building less than 1000 square feet expect to get palpitations over your tax bill.

Isn’t it ironic this state prides itself on energy efficiency like California yet taxes the heck out of you when you try to update your 1950 home with improvements like insulation or electric. Seems hypocritical if your trying to better your home they tax you more. So what they want is for you to live in a decrepid 1950 house wasting oil heat rather than do it right and update it saving heating oil and ac electric. Funny how that works

Here is the formula, do you work or have family member in township or county position, does your last name end in a vowel, have you donated to the Republican party if you meet any of the above multiply assessment value by 1-1.5x, if not multiply 5x.

I have been wondering how Joe Saladino's waterfront home in the Nassau Shores was assessed in the mid 400's, that explains it, thanks.
