Looking to purchase a home on long island. I know there are certain areas i want to stay clear of for safety reasons. I went and saw a home on Birch Ave. in Huntington. The home was lovely, but the area seemed slightly run down compared to just 3 blocks East is this a safe area, spillover from Huntington station? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Part of the reason IMHO is the area is full of long term homeowners. Many are elderly and the property reflects it. As they sell (usually to first time homeowners) everything gets spruced up. That part of Huntington is closer to Greenlawn and is in the Harborfields SD.

twingles and Elke are both correct. it is a good area and IMO a great value. There are definitely nicer areas within Harborfields school district but the jump up in price and taxes for those areas is a lot, and IMO, may not be worth it, depending on your circumstances and what you are looking for. In this neighborhood you are in a good, safe neighborhood in Harborfields at a (relatively) low price point and low tax point.

I am very familiar with the area PM me if you have any specific questions. I am assuming you are looking at the house on Birch Place at the end of Birch avenue?
