Hi, I grew up on Long Island, moved out of state, and due to my job came back. I noticed since I have been gone the elementary schools have drastically changed. The elementary schools I knew of with honors programs no longer exist, yet the focus seems to be much more on special education instead.
What happened? Are the honors programs in elementary schools non existent because funding was switched over to special education?

My son was in an honors program before we moved back to Long Island and he seems to get left in the dust due to him being advanced yet it seems if he was special education he would get not only what he needs but plenty more. I just see a total unequal balance.

Taxpayers got tired of paying for teachers who only have 10 kids in "honor class". It's nonsense. If you think your 8 year is so special send the Einstein to private school with your own cabbage.

Besides..public education wants to produce cookie cutter students. No one smarter than the rest....all on the same level..Arne Duncan Style.
