Really? More big development? Traffic isnt bad enough here? Hasn't anyone noticed the 3 hour backups because of a stupid tennis game going on out east? What's going to happen when there's a show at this new arena each weekend?
Look at the site plan on that website, they want to put the arena on the only green spot left in the area.
Bellone is quoted saying most of the residents want this project. I'd bet most dont know the first thing about it.
Ronkonkoma is the area of Central Suffolk County, Long Island, New York that encompasses Long Island MacArthur Airport®, Long Island Railroad’s Ronkonkoma Train Station, The Long Island Expressway, A future “people mover” from the LIRR train to Long Island MacArthur Airport, plus in the future Stony Brook Hospital and Brookhaven National Labs. A new “Long Island Arena” with Business Complex plus more. The Ronkonkoma Hub and a New Village At Ronkonkoma. It’s also going to be the gateway to Eastern Long Island (plans for an electric train line to Yaphank are starting to form) Plus, Long Island’s only casino Jakes’s 58, is just 1 exit away. Then just 15 minutes from the EPICENTER are the Fire Island Ferries (south) and Port Jefferson Ferry to Connecticut (north). Put them all together and you’ve found foundation for Long Island’s EPICENTER.

I find it amusing that they are promoting proximity to the airport to increase airport use, train/airport connectivity, while at the same time building up the last open land around the ariport, effectively choking off further growth. Looking to the north end of the airport, toward the proposed arena area, they've already situated a composting facility, and just north of that, the remaining green space, as you've noted, is the proposed arena site. If airport expansion is ever needed, where do they go? ED the Holbrook folks living to the east between Lincoln and Broadway?
Last year there was an article about improving Nicolls Rd access north and south to better connect SBU and UHSB with this hub area.
They're OKaying all this ambitiousness, yet at the same time telling us homeowners that we are personally going to be on the hook for ridiculously expensive, electric-powered septic systems at our homes in order to save the aquifer and reduce nitrogen run off. If Baloney wants all this, he should be connecting all of us to sewers first.
You can't squeeze 10 pounds of lard into a 5 pound jar.
No but there are those that are dumb enough to try.
